Introduction
The Proto-Sami language is believed to have formed in the vicinity of the Gulf of Finland between 1000 B.C. to 700 A.D. Its closest geographic language neighbour was the Late Proto-Finnic language spoken by the Finnic tribes.
Proto-Sami derived from a common Proto-Sami-Finnic language.
